Beacons Drop a Pair in SoCal

Freshman Tra Kucera had another strong day at the plate collecting four hits but it wasn't enough as the Beacons drop both games at the NAIA SoCal Classic at Big League Dreams Park.

GAME ONE: Hope International 2, NCU 0

Senior Katie Walker collected a career-high seven strikeout and went the distance as the Beacons dropped their opener to Hope. The Royals picked up single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to account for all the damage.

NCU had four hits in the game including two from Kucera in the lead-off spot as well as singles from Paige Griffith and Jessica Garner. Caitlyn Messman walked twice, as she got on base five times on the day.

GAME TWO: Menlo 7, NCU 1

The Beacons struck first, but their third-inning run wouldn't hold as the Oaks scored three runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth.

Kucera and Messman had two hits apiece and Kucera scored the Beacons only run of the night on an RBI groundout from Alyssa Gayle.

Gayle also went five innings in the circle, striking out a pair of batters.

With an anticipated storm brewing in the Los Angeles basin, all of Friday's games were preemptively cancelled on Thursday evening. The team will wait in anticipation of potential rescheduled contests on Saturday should field conditions and weather improve.
