EUGENE, Ore. – With all of their shooters heavily guarded on the final in-bound play, senior Center Jordan Clark got free at the top of the key and drained a wide open three-pointer as time expired to give Linfield College a 69-66 victory over the NCU men's basketball team on Wednesday night.
Â
It was the deep ball that made the difference for the Wildcats. After shooting 1-for-14 from outside in the first half, the visitors drained seven triples over the final 20 minutes. Although he hadn't been the first option for the final play, Clark may as well have been as he ended his night shooting 8-for-8 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line, scoring 20 points.
Â
The Beacons, who led 30-29 at halftime, had their opportunities as well and had the chance to own the final possession, but a blocked field goal attempt with five seconds remaining and a defensive rebound allowed Linfield to grab a rebound and get fouled, setting up the final dagger.
Â
The Wildcats (7-1) finished the night shooting 44% from the field while NCU shot 45%. Linfield also held a 38-30 rebounding advantage in the game as Clark led the way with a team-high nine boards. Behind the near double-double, Dempsey Roggenbuck added 12 points, Liam O'Reilly scored 11 and Riley Bruil chimed in with ten.
Â
NCU (4-4) was led by senior
Michael Loomis (pictured) who owned game-high marks with 22 points and 13 rebounds. He was 4-for-7 from three-point range.
Kenny Blackwell added 16 points, seven assists and three steals while
Brock Rice posted ten points.Â
The loss snapped an 18-game non-conference home winning streak for the Beacons, dating back to a November 30, 2013 game against William Jessup.Â
Â
The Beacons have ten days off and will return to action after finals week, traveling to face Eastern Oregon on Friday, December 15th as Cascade Collegiate Conference action resumes at 7:30 pm.Â
