Beacons Stopped Short by Evergreen

EUGENE, Ore. – A buzzer-beating jumper by Brock Rice was called off as the officials determined the shot came off after the clock expired and the Evergreen State College Geoducks escaped the Morse Event Center with an 81-80 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory on Friday night.

Just eight seconds earlier, Evergreen's Pat Ling hit a 15-foot go-ahead jumper, providing the visitors with their final lead in a contest that featured ten lead changes and six ties.

The difference in the game came at the free-throw line where Evergreen shot 72% while the Beacons were just 48%. The Geoducks (2-12, 1-4 CCC) were also 8-for-15 from three-point range and shot 47% overall.

The Beacons (4-7, 0-4) hit 11 triples of their own including three each from Davonte Cleveland and Michael Loomis. Loomis (pictured) finished with a team-leading 20 points while Cleveland added 18. Canyon Dwyre, in his first start of the season, scored nine points and led NCU with ten rebounds while Kenny Blackwell posted a game-high eight assists.

Evergreen was led by 22 points from Dustin Meade, shooting 6-for-7 from three-point range. Ling finished with 16 and Ryan Quigley scored 13 points and three steals in the victory. Jaurence Chisholm chimed in with a double-double, scoring ten points and a game-best 11 rebounds.

NCU will return to action on Saturday night, playing host to Northwest University. Evergreen travels to Salem to take on Corban. Both games are scheduled for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
