EUGENE, Ore. – A 28-11 run in the first quarter boosted the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team on Saturday, eventually defeating The Evergreen State College, 84-55.
Â
The Beacons shot 61% from the field in the first quarter, and after holding Evergreen to just eight points in the second quarter, owned a 48-19 lead at halftime. The Geoducks kept things even over the final 20 minutes as the Beacons were able to give plenty of minutes to the supporting players.
Â
NCU (9-6, 6-2) was led by
Ashley Land (pictured) off the bench, scoring a season-high 15, hitting 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Kenzie Weston also had a trio of treys and added 11 from the bench as the NCU reserves accounted for nearly half of the point total and outscored the Evergreen subs, 41-9.
Katerina Brejchova scored 12 points and had six rebounds, all of which came in the first half.
Monique Thompson added ten points and played just four minutes in the second half.

Head Coach
Heath Alexander said, "We played really well together today and did a great job making the extra pass. It was nice to get Ashley going today as she shot the ball really well from three. Kenzie gave us a big spark also and really moved the ball and attacked the bucket."
Â
Evergreen (3-13, 2-7) was led by Gabi Fenumiai, scoring 12 points and ten rebounds. Corina Tacordon and Zaria Jones added ten points apiece. The Geoducks shot 33% from the field but were even on the glass at 40 rebounds for each squad.
Â
Evergreen will return to the court on Tuesday evening, going back home to Olympia for a rivalry clash with Northwest University at 5:30 p.m.
Â
NCU has won their fourth straight conference game, and were able to remain in a three-way tie for third place in the conference with Oregon Tech and The College of Idaho. Southern Oregon and Eastern Oregon both sit atop the CCC with matching 7-0 records in league play. The Beacons will hope to keep the streak alive next weekend when they travel to Portland to take on Warner Pacific (1-7) on Friday and Multnomah (2-5) on Saturday. Both games will tip-off at 5:30 pm.Â
