Schwarz Leads Sweep of Bruins

EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Keri Schwarz led a solid NCU attack on Tuesday night as the Beacons took care of business on the road, defeating George Fox University in three sets, 25-9, 25-20, 25-18.

Schwarz led all players with ten kills and hit .500 as she went the entire evening without an error. As a team, NCU (3-5) had just 16 unforced errors spread out among their three sets of action. The team hit .175 with five aces and a 6-5 advantage in blocks, three of which also came from Schwarz including a solo effort.

Head Coach Kelly Rosin said, "We played with high energy tonight and focused on playing aggressively from the service line and on the net. Our three defensive specialists kept us in tempo with their serve receive and made some great digs for us to stay in play."

The first set was relatively painless. After the Bruins scored the first two points, three straight NCU kills sparked a 7-1 run and the Beacons never looked back. A 9-0 streak ended the set, including five errors for the home team.

The Bruins rebounded in the second set as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead. NCU gradually fought back, taking their first lead, 16-15 on a kill from Schwarz. A 7-1 run gave the Beacons a four point lead and they eventually closed the set with a Cassidy Winters kill.

NCU scored the first trio of points in the final set only to see GFU tie the game at 9-9. The Beacons, however, never relented the lead and capped off the match with a big assisted block from Winters and Maci Beierle.

The Beacons, who have won three of their last four matches, were led by Schwarz but many players contributed. Macy DuCoeur added eight kills. Beierle finished with 25 assists, six digs, three aces and two blocks. Haley Damian and Sydney Rothenbush each produced ten digs and Winters finished with four kills and three blocks.

Northwest Christian will remain on the road, traveling to Caldwell, Idaho on Friday for a clash with the College of Idaho. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the west coast.
