PORTLAND, Ore. – Sophomore
Levi Dean (pictured) posted the third-best round in NCU history on Monday to guide the Beacons to a fourth-place finish at the Warner Pacific Invitational.
Â
Dean shot a six-under 67 on the 6544 yard par 73 Glendoveer Golf Course in the second round. His three-round total of 223 was good for tie for seventh and was the best finish among the Beacons. "To see things come together like that for Levi was an awesome moment," said head coach
Tyler Falk. "It is one thing to take it low in practice but for anyone to do that in an event is huge and will be huge for confidence down the road."
Â
Freshman
Justin Gilbert and sophomore
Josh Goins had matching scores of 230 to claim a tie for 16th place.
Paul Smoot followed in 20th (233) and
Austin Dame rounded out the team scoring in 35th (244).
Â
Golfing as an individual,
Jack Singleton claimed 29th place with a score of 238.
Â
The Beacons scored a three-round total of 916 and finished 33 strokes behind the winning score of Oregon Tech (883). The team posted a second-round 296 which was the best team score of the season and just missed a spot on NCU's top-ten list.
Â
Corban University was a close second (885) and host Warner Pacific was right behind in third (888). NCU finished ahead of both the College of Idaho (923) and Walla Walla (1001).
Â
The Beacons have one tournament left this fall, the Walla Walla Invitational on October 10-11.Â
