KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - NCU gave up a first half goal on Friday but battled back to tie the score as junior
Brighton Hebisen (pictured) boosted the Beacons with a goal of her own in the second half during a 1-1 draw with Oregon Tech.
Â
The Beacons were outshot in the contest, 16-14 but held a 7-4 margin in shots-on-goal in an evenly contested match.
Â
Head Coach
Jessica Cardwell said, "We were scored on in the first half and that really gave OIT the momentum. We were able to create lots of opportunities but just couldn't find the back of the net."
Â
NCU also held a slim 6-5 edge in corner kicks, but it was the extra attempt that made the difference as it was a corner kick by Sami Wilson in the 72nd minute that created the equalizing opportunity. For the second weekend in a row, Hebison used her head to punch home a goal on a corner kick.
Â
"Brighton came up huge for us today after the beautiful corner by Sami," said Cardwell.
Â
Â
The goal salvaged what could have been a 1-0 loss after the Owls scored the first tally in the 24th minute when a Mariko Bebb through ball found Tori Roberts for a ten-foot strike.
Â
Junior keeper
Mackenzie Galick played all 110 minutes for the Beacons, collecting three saves. Cardwell commented, "Mackenzie came up with some amazing saves to keep us in the game. She played incredibly well"
Â
NCU (4-5-1, 1-1-1 CCC) returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Ashland to take on Southern Oregon University at 4 p.m.
