EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's soccer team picked up their first conference win of the season on Saturday, shutting out the University of Great Falls, 1-0.
Â
On the heels of NCU's first ever win against the Argonauts in four tries, head coach
Benny Flores said, "I am very excited about the effort the boys gave today. To beat a quality team like Great Falls is exciting for our program and we are looking to build off this win."
Â
On Friday
Angel Sandoval scored early only to see Carroll College come back for a 2-1 win. This time a first-half goal from the senior forward held up as the game-winner. Sandoval scored in the 12th minute and it would be just enough to survive for the win.
Â
Sandoval scored off an incredible assist from Alex Abalan who laced a pin-pointed through ball between three different defenders, weaving the ball to into the box and leaving him one-on-one with the keeper.
Â
NCU (5-2, 1-1 CCC) was outshot in the contest 14-10 and freshman keeper
Yayo Olvera withstood six shots on goal, making all six saves in route to his second clean sheet of the campaign.
Â
"To think that we could play better than we did today is very exciting for our program," reflected Flores.
Â
Northwest Christian hits the road for the next month, playing seven straight games away from Mike Kelly Field. They will start the trek at Oregon Tech, next Friday at 2 p.m.
Â
Great Falls will be back at home next weekend, taking on Eastern Oregon on Friday at 2 p.m.
