EUGENE, Ore. – With game time temperatures reaching triple digits for the first time in school history, the NCU women's soccer team had to work a little harder to get the win in their season opener on Friday, but the offense was just as hot as the field turf as the Beacons claimed a 6-0 victory over The King's University. Sophomore
Emily Miller (pictured) had two goals and one assist the biggest home-opening victory in school history.
Â
Senior
Maddi Bartholomew got her season off on the right foot, scoring just 15 seconds into the game for the second-fastest goal in school history. Freshman
Maggie McCausland started her career off on the right foot, grabbing an assist on her first touch as a Beacon.
Â
NCU found pay dirt once again in the eighth minute when junior transfer
Selina Chacon scored off a pass from freshman
Sierra Graton.
Â
The Beacons made it 3-0 when
Nikki Bevans scored off of a through ball from
Emily Miller.
Â
NCU picked up the scoring in the second half when Miller got on the board for the first her two scores when the opportunity was created in the box on a give-and-go pass from Bartholomew.
Â
The score remained 4-0 until the final minute and ten seconds of the game when the Beacons scored another pair of goals. McCausland added to her impressive debut with a tap-in shot off a pass from Sami Wilson and just 23 seconds later, Miller hit the back of the net after a perfect cross from
Joceline Howard.
Â
The Beacons (1-0) dominated all facets of the game, outscoring the Eagles, 35-1 including a 17-1 advantage in shots-on-goal. The King's only shot came on a free-kick attempt from 25-yards out in the final two minutes of the contest.
Â
Northwest Christian also owned an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks while
Mackenzie Galick and
Katie Hastings combined on the shutout with Hastings picking up the lone save.
Â
NCU returns to action on Saturday for the annual alumni game and will then travel to California, taking on Simpson University on the 25th.Â
