Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Nick Askew, Sports Information Director

Beacons Open with Offensive Heat Wave

EUGENE, Ore.  – With game time temperatures reaching triple digits for the first time in school history, the NCU women's soccer team had to work a little harder to get the win in their season opener on Friday, but the offense was just as hot as the field turf as the Beacons claimed a 6-0 victory over The King's University. Sophomore Emily Miller (pictured) had two goals and one assist the biggest home-opening victory in school history.

Senior Maddi Bartholomew got her season off on the right foot, scoring just 15 seconds into the game for the second-fastest goal in school history. Freshman Maggie McCausland started her career off on the right foot, grabbing an assist on her first touch as a Beacon.

NCU found pay dirt once again in the eighth minute when junior transfer Selina Chacon scored off a pass from freshman Sierra Graton.

The Beacons made it 3-0 when Nikki Bevans scored off of a through ball from Emily Miller.

NCU picked up the scoring in the second half when Miller got on the board for the first her two scores when the opportunity was created in the box on a give-and-go pass from Bartholomew.

The score remained 4-0 until the final minute and ten seconds of the game when the Beacons scored another pair of goals. McCausland added to her impressive debut with a tap-in shot off a pass from Sami Wilson and just 23 seconds later, Miller hit the back of the net after a perfect cross from Joceline Howard.

The Beacons (1-0) dominated all facets of the game, outscoring the Eagles, 35-1 including a 17-1 advantage in shots-on-goal. The King's only shot came on a free-kick attempt from 25-yards out in the final two minutes of the contest.

Northwest Christian also owned an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks while Mackenzie Galick and Katie Hastings combined on the shutout with Hastings picking up the lone save.

NCU returns to action on Saturday for the annual alumni game and will then travel to California, taking on Simpson University on the 25th.
