Fritter Claims the NCU Home Run Crown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Parker Fritter hit a pair of home runs in game two of a double-header with Corban University on Saturday, leading the Beacons to victory and giving herself the new career record for homers in the process. NCU ended the day splitting with the No. 23 ranked Warriors, winning 6-5 after dropping the first game, 6-4.

Fritter crushed her 32nd home run in the third inning, a three-run shot to tie Cassie Bishop (2008-2011) for the gold standard. Then in the sixth inning it was a solo shot that gave her the new mantle and in the process, giving the Beacons a crucial insurance run.

Fritter now has nine home runs on the season, the fourth-best single-campaign total in school history, and she has moved into a tie for second-place on the James Park all-time home run list with 12.

As for the games, Corban got the better of NCU in the opener, winning 6-4 as they scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a tie game and claim the win. Taylor Eilders hit an RBI double and Raina Reece followed with an RBI single as the Warriors posted four hits in the inning.

Sophomore Ashlee Cole had tied the game for the Beacons in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run, her tenth of the season.

NCU scored their four runs on just three hits as Kyndle DelCollo and Kiara Vasquez joined Cole in putting the ball safely into play. Janieve Boyles (3-7) took the loss for the Beacons, allowing six earned runs as she worked into the seventh inning. Breanne Johnson came on in relief and got the final three outs.

Corban collected ten hits in the game with Reece and Eilders both batting 2-for-4 with two RBI. Danielle Ackerman went 2-for-2 in the nine-hole. Jessica Holsinger (11-5) went the distance to get the victory, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out eight batters.

Game two proved to be just as competitive as the teams exchanged leads three times. Corban jumped out early with a run in the first inning but the Beacons responded with two in the bottom of the second inning.

Corban answered with two of their own in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead, only to see Fritter make it 5-3 in favor of NCU as she crushed her first homer to dead center field.

The Warriors got one run back in the fourth on an RBI single from Eilders before the solo blast from Fritter gave NCU a 6-4 lead after six innings.

Fritter finished the game going 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. DelCollo went 2-for-3 for the Beacons.

Johnson (4-7) started and finished the game for NCU, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout.

Eilders completed a five-hit day for Corban as she went 3-for-4. Iris Rodriguez and Allie Mendez each had a pair of hits as well. Mednez also threw a complete-game in the circle for the Warriors, allowing three earned runs while striking out a pair.

NCU returns to action on Tuesday, playing host to a Southern Oregon University to make up a double-header originally scheduled for March 12. Corban will be back in Salem on Tuesday to play host to Oregon Tech. Both games are set to begin at 2:00 pm.
