Vasquez Homer Provides Highlight Against WOU

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's softball team played their final regular-season road games on Tuesday, losing a pair of non-conference games to Western Oregon University, 3-2 and 6-0. Junior Kiara Vasquez hit her fifth home run of the season to account for both Beacon runs.

The Wolves ended up taking game one in nine innings, scoring a walk-off win with a home run in the bottom of the ninth. The Beacons had led 2-0 after Vasquez's homer in the fourth inning but WOU responded with two in the sixth.

Ashlee Cole was 2-for-4 for the Beacons, hitting her eighth double of the season. Katie Walker (4-10) took the loss, allowing three runs in eight innings of work.

Game two proved to be a little more difficult for the visitors as three WOU pitchers combined on a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Freshman Madi Jones (1-3) pitched a solid four innings, allowing three runs and striking out a batter for the Beacons.

A silver lining for the Beacons came in the form of a pair of walks for Cole who has now reached base safely in 16 consecutive games.

The Beacons will return home to close out the regular season this weekend. NCU hosts the University of Great Falls at 2:00 pm on Friday and will then face CCC Eastern Division Champion Carroll College at 11:00 am on Saturday.
