MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's softball team played their final regular-season road games on Tuesday, losing a pair of non-conference games to Western Oregon University, 3-2 and 6-0. Junior
Kiara Vasquez hit her fifth home run of the season to account for both Beacon runs.
Â
The Wolves ended up taking game one in nine innings, scoring a walk-off win with a home run in the bottom of the ninth. The Beacons had led 2-0 after Vasquez's homer in the fourth inning but WOU responded with two in the sixth.
Â
Ashlee Cole was 2-for-4 for the Beacons, hitting her eighth double of the season.
Katie Walker (4-10) took the loss, allowing three runs in eight innings of work.
Â
Game two proved to be a little more difficult for the visitors as three WOU pitchers combined on a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Freshman
Madi Jones (1-3) pitched a solid four innings, allowing three runs and striking out a batter for the Beacons.
Â
A silver lining for the Beacons came in the form of a pair of walks for Cole who has now reached base safely in 16 consecutive games.
Â
The Beacons will return home to close out the regular season this weekend. NCU hosts the University of Great Falls at 2:00 pm on Friday and will then face CCC Eastern Division Champion Carroll College at 11:00 am on Saturday.
