KIRKLAND, Wash. – While the NCU bats continued to produce some impressive numbers, it was the NCU pitchers turn to shine on Saturday as NCU swept Northwest University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference double-header, 4-1 and 5-3.
Â
Junior Breanne Johnson got the call in the opener and didn't disappoint, going the distance with a four-hitter, allowing just one run in seven innings of work for her team-leading third win of the season.
Â
Offensively, the Beacons staked their starting pitcher to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning
Jessica Garner opened the game with a single down the right field line. After stealing second base, Garner came home on an RBI double from
Kyndle DelCollo.
Â
The third inning saw the visitors post three more runs. Candace Furlong led off with a double and scored on a squeeze bunt by
Anita Singh. Garner, who had singled, once again scored off an RBI hit by DelCollo and then DelCollo came home on an RBI triple from
Ashlee Cole.
Â
Garner led the team, batting 3-for-4 with two runs.
Â
The home run sticks came back to life in the second game, beginning with a two-run jack from
Kiara Vasquez to give NCU a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Parker Fritter later led off the fourth inning with her fifth homer of the season.
Â
Janieve Boyles (2-4) pitched a complete game for NCU, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out three batters.
Â
NCU finished the day with 16 total hits including a combined 4-for-6 day by DelCollo.
Â
The Beacons are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Happy Valley to host a CCC double-header with Oregon Tech at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. Â
