Women Tie Single-Season Win Record

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team won their fifth game in their last six on Saturday night, topping Warner Pacific 64-57 to equal the most wins in a season in program history at 18.

The Beacons (18-9, 13-5 CCC) last won as many games in the 2005-2006 season, a pre-NAIA year in which the team that took fourth-place at the USCAA national tournament. NCU has also won as many conference games this season as they did total games last year.

The Beacons didn't shoot the ball particularly well on Saturday, hitting just 36% of their shots including 8-for-31 from three-point range, but the defense was stellar once again, holding the Knights to just 18 points in the first half and a 33% shooting effort for the game.

"This was a great defensive effort from our entire team," said head coach Heath Alexander. "Road wins in this conference are not easy. I am very proud of our effort and execution to get it done."

NCU has led by a trio of players, Niki Duncan, Monique Thompson, and Chandler Gabrio who each scored 15 points. Thompson added a team-high three assists. Hanna Mack was held to four points, but led all players with seven rebounds, as did MeShel Rad.

It was a milestone night for Andrea Gloss who brought in six rebounds, moving her career total to 505. She is the first player in school history with at least 800 points, 500 rebounds, and 100 blocks in her career.

Warner Pacific (13-11, 8-10 CCC) had three players in double-digits, led by Lindsay Loe and Daesha Jackson with 11 apiece. Taylor Howlett added ten points and a team-high five rebounds.

With the victory, NCU moves to within one victory, or one Corban University loss, of securing at least fourth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. They will have a tough task next weekend, playing host to No. 6 Southern Oregon University (24-1) on Friday night and Oregon Tech (21-7) on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 pm.
