Beacons Stunned by Owls, Miss Playoffs

EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian needed a win or a Warner Pacific loss on Saturday to advance to the Cascade Collegiate Conference postseason tournament. It got neither.

The Beacons (11-15, 9-11 CCC) were upended by eighth-place Oregon Tech (12-14, 8-12 CCC) in three sets, 25-18, 25-12, 25-22 on OIT's senior night. In a stark contrast from the previous night's victory over Southern Oregon, NCU hit just .071, was out-blocked 6-5 and was out-dug 52-46.

The NCU loss, coupled by WPC's victory over Evergreen, created a tie for sixth-place at the close of the regular season. Warner Pacific however won the tiebreaker, by virtue of a regular-season sweep of the Beacons.

Northwest Christian was led by senior Taylor Burnett, posting one final double-double with ten kills and ten digs. Senior Cassidy Winters ended her career on a high note as well, hitting .353 with eight kills and two blocks. Macie Beierle added 25 assists, nine digs and two blocks and Haley Damian completed the year with a 13-digs effort.

Oregon Tech was led by Kelsey Sampson, posting a game-high 13 kills with just two errors. Waverly Green collected 20 assists and Bella Foss led all players with 20 digs. Oregon Tech hit .278 for the match including a scorching 16 kill, 3 error effort in the blowout second set.
