CALDWELL, Idaho – The Northwest Christian University women's soccer team will be happy to return to their home field when they resume play in two weeks. The Beacons dropped a 3-0 decision to The College of Idaho on Sunday, closing out a five-game stretch of travel that saw them go 0-4-1.
Â
NCU (4-9-1, 1-5-1 CCC) kept things competitive all afternoon and finished with an equal number of shots-on-goal (7) as the home team, and both teams collected seven corner kicks. Unfortunately, none of the Beacon efforts were able to find pay dirt. The Yotes (5-5, 1-4 CCC) struck twice in the first half and again in the second to claim their first conference win of the season.
Â
Jamiece Yizar got C of I on the board in the 23rd minute, taking a pass from Katelyn Benavidez and beating the Beacon keeper for the score.
Â
In the 43rd minute a corner kick was successfully blocked, but Victoria Cerda found the rebound and slotted a pass to Maddie Brown who hit the back of the net.
Â
Yizar added another insurance goal in the 74th minute, collecting the rebound off a saved free-kick from Benavidez for the open-net strike.
Â
The Yotes finished with a 13-10 edge in the overall shot count and Brittany Houghton collected seven saves in the shutout win.
Â
Northwest Christian has completed their road schedule for the season and will be back in action on October 21 when they play host to Warner Pacific College (4-5-1, 2-3-1) at 1:00 pm.
