Beacons Take Down Multnomah in Three

EUGENE, Ore. – On the night they were celebrated, a pair of NCU seniors took control, leading the Beacons to a 3-0 victory over Multnomah on Friday night, 25-23, 25-15, 25-20.  Cassidy Winters and Taylor Burnett combined for 22 kills in the easy victory.

The Beacons (10-13, 8-9 CCC) hit .240 as a team as they propelled themselves into sole possession of sixth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and into the driver's seat for the final playoff spot. Multnomah (10-16, 4-14 CCC) collected five blocks.

Winters had the middle of the net rocking all night, hitting .478 with 13 kills and two blocks. Keri Schwarz joined her on the opposite side of the rotation with seven kills and two blocks, hitting .333. The junior also led the team with a pair of service aces.

Burnett barely missed a double-double, collecting nine kills with 13 digs. Maci Beierle collected 33 assists and Sydney Rothenbush produced 16 digs. Kendall Bergsten also enjoyed her senior night, posting seven kills and five digs.

Multnomah was led by Patty Batoon, one of a trio of players to secure seven kills. She added four blocks and hit a team-high .462 as she had just one attack error. Miranda Halverson added seven kills and a team-high 11 digs while Maile Kam scored seven kills and three blocks. Marisa Rhodes totaled 21 assists.

Losses by Warner Pacific and Oregon Tech on Friday night broke a three-way tie for sixth place in the CCC. NCU takes their fate into their own hands as they host Warner Pacific in the final home game of the season on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The Beacons are in position to possibly clinch the final playoff spot tomorrow.
