EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Jill Suratt threw a complete game three-hit shutout in game one on Saturday, lifting the Beacons to a split with Southern Oregon University, 5-0 and 2-6.
GAME ONE
The Raiders only had runners in scoring position three times in the opener as Suratt (3-6) produced her best outing of the season.
NCU got on the board early and often, starting in the bottom of the first inning when Randi Kostner scored on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a single. The Beacons put up a similar run in the second inning when Parker Bonife opening the frame with a single and later scored on an error.
The final three runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning including an RBI triple from Ashlee Cole, and RBI single from Kaeli Massetto. Anita Singh also scored on a wild pitch after pinch-running for Massetto.
Suratt, Bonife and Addy Hoskins had two hits apiece for the Beacons, who posted ten total hits on SOU starter Brianne Craig (8-4).
GAME TWO
The second half of the double header became Cheyenne Brickers' chance for a pitching gem, winning a 6-2 contest in which she went the distance and gave up just two runs on five hits to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Both Beacon scores came on sacrifice flys by Bonife. It is believed to be the first time in school history that a player had two sac flies in the same game.
The Raiders got their offense going early, tagging NCU starter Katie Walker (3-9) for two runs on three hits in the first inning. SOU proceeded to put up fence posts in the second, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
Kelsey Randall led the way for the Raiders, batting 4-for-4. Kristin Ahern hit a solo home run and batted 3-for-4 with two RBI.
The Beacons are scheduled to resume action on Wednesday, playing host to Pacific University for the final non-conference games of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
