ASHLAND, Ore. - The 23rd-ranked Southern Oregon men's basketball team ended a five-game losing streak to Northwest Christian in dramatic fashion Wednesday night with a 98-92 double-overtime victory in the quarterfinal round of the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank.
Javonte Byrd hit a fadeaway 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to force the first overtime, and SOU rallied from seven points down as Kenny Meyer made two free throws with four seconds on the clock to force the second. The Raiders outscored the Beacons 15-9 in the final frame.Â
Byrd led six Beacons in double figures with 27 points as he hit five triples.
Devyn Iglehart ended his career with a bang, scoring 15 points and nine assists.
Austin Kuemper and
Travis Pacos scored 11 each while
Jay Mayernik and
Omar Richards scored ten apiece.Â
NCU (17-11) shot 44% in the game and went to the free-throw line just 16 times, compared to 49 free-throw attempts for the home team. NCU was out-rebounded 43-39 and committed 33 fouls. SOU had just 15 fouls. The Beacons drained 11 three-pointers.

Ben DeSaulnier and Jordan West led the fourth-seeded Raiders (23-8 overall) with 20 points each. Eric Thompson scored 19 points and 11 rebounds but had just six points and two rebounds after the opening 20 minutes of the game. Tim Weber flirted with another triple-double, scoring 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Meyer finished with 14 points, shooting 9-for-11 at the free-throw line, mostly during the overtime periods.Â
The Beacons season comes to a close while SOU survives and advances to take on No. 3 seed Warner Pacific in the semifinals on Saturday night.Â
