EUGENE, Ore. – NCU posted the third-highest point total in school history on Wednesday night, taking down Walla Walla University 99-34 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference victory. Not only was it a great birthday present for head coach
Heath Alexander, but birthday girl
Jeni Hoffert added to her own celebration with a double-double off the bench.
Â
The game was never in doubt for the Beacons who opened up a 28-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. A 24-4 edge in the fourth sealed the deal as NCU used all 14 suited players and no one needed to be on the court for more than 20 in the romp.
"It was a good birthday for Hoffert and myself," said Alexander. "I was pleased with our focus and effort today. Everyone was able to play significant minutes and get in the score column."
Â
The Beacons (8-5, 4-2 CCC) were on the verge of a number of school records on Wednesday, just missing the record for biggest margin of victory (66) and falling just one three-pointer shy of that mark as well, hitting 14. The green light was on all-night as the team took 91 field goal attempts including 41 from beyond the arc to finish with a 44% shooting clip.
Â
The Wolves (0-10, 0-5 CCC) shot just 30% in the game and were 0-for-5 from three-point range, relying heavily on the presence of Lauren Pernu, scoring 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting. The senior added a team-high six rebounds and was the only Wolf in double-figures.
Â
NCU was led by
Andrea Gloss, shooting 9-for-11 for 19 points.
Niki Duncan added 11 points, hitting three triples.
Jenna Christenson came off the bench to score 15, going 4-for-8 from three-point range and Hoffert had her best game as a Beacon, scoring 15 points, ten rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. As a team, NCU outscored the Wolves off the bench, 56-8.
Â
The Beacons also outrebounded WWU, 53-35 including 24 offensive rebounds.
MeShel Rad finished with ten boards and tied the NCU single-game record with nine on the offensive glass.
Â
Northwest Christian, winners of four straight games, will have a slight reprieve from CCC action traveling to Salem on Saturday to face Willamette University at 5:00 pm.Â
