KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University prevailed in overtime on Friday night, sending the Beacons to a 1-0 loss to close out the 2015 season.
Two teams couldn't have fought a closer battle than the combatants did on a wet and soggy afternoon at Eagle Field. The foul count was close, 12-11, while the Beacons dominated the corner kick column 7-2. NCU held an 18-17 edge in shot attempts with both teams taking ten shots on goal.
It was NU's final shot-on-goal that proved to be the difference, however, when Whitney Weaver shot a ball over NCU keeper
Kristin Fulbright into the left corner of the nylon with just over three minutes remaining in overtime.
The result put a damper on the final weekend for NCU, but not before Fulbright (pictured) made one final case for an all-conference nod. The game could have easily gotten out of hand early in the first half but the senior made two saves on Penalty Kicks. Fulbright closed out her career with another nine saves, giving her a school-record with 266 saves.
NCU ends the season with a mark of 3-13-1 including a 2-9 record in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
