Senior Men Start the Party Early

EUGENE, Ore.  – Saturday night will be the final home game of the season, but a few of NCU's seniors decided to start the "Senior Night" celebration a little early, contributing a shutout and all four goals in a 4-0 win over Multnomah University on Friday night.

The Beacons struck early and often against the Lions (0-12, 0-9 CCC) and finished the night with a 38-2 advantage in shot attempts including a 15-1 margin in shots-on-goal. The defense rarely saw a ball get past them, allowing senior goalie John Castro to record the shutout with just one save.

Steve Jusko (pictured) was the first to put one into the nylon, scoring in the 15th minute off a cross from another senior, Isaiah Blake for the eventual game-winning goal.

15 minutes later, Chris Hendler got in on the action. Joey Garcia created a turnover at midfield and sent a through-ball to Hendler who chipped the ball up and over the keeper for the first insurance score.

NCU took a 2-0 lead into halftime and scored again 15 minutes into the second half. This time, Blake sent a perfect cross to Hendler who had a goal line tap-in for his second strike of the night.

The Beacons wrapped up the scoring in the 66th minute as senior Aaron Chesnut found a Garcia corner kick and fired home another empty-net goal line strike.

Multnomah goalkeeper Manny Guillermo made 11 saves in the game.

The four goals scored by the Beacons (2-10-1, 1-7 CCC) is the highest output of the season. Tonight also ended a nine-match losing streak and marked the first on-field victory of the season for the Beacons. It was also the first on-field collegiate win for head coach Benny Flores. NCU's only other victory came via forfeit earlier in the season.

NCU will return to action on Saturday night for the official Senior Night celebration before the Beacons take on Walla Walla University at 7:30 p.m.
