Stover Shines One Last Time

| Box Score 2 SALEM, Ore. - It took until the final game of her career, but Senior Gabby Stover broke through on Saturday, setting a new NCU hit record as the Beacons were swept by Corban University, 6-4 and 11-1.

Stover went 3-for-5 on Saturday with 3 singles, giving her 146 hits in her career. She tops the former record of 144, held since 2007 by Kasey Sconce-Cutsforth. Stover finishes her collegiate years as the Beacons all-time leader for hits, doubles, stolen bases, hit-by-pitch, and multi-hit games.

Also on Saturday, Parker Bonife hit her CCC-leading 10th Home Run, ending her campaign just one HR shy of the single-season record. With 17 home runs in her young career, Bonife now sits third all-time and 15 home runs away from the career record (32, Cassie Bishop-Ahrens).

Corban 6, Northwest Christian 3

NCU's post-season hopes faded with a game-one loss. The Beacons led 4-0 after a three-run fourth inning, but the Warriors stormed back with five runs in the bottom frame. Corban added one more run in the sixth to claim the victory and push NCU out of playoff contention. Going into the day, the Beacons needed two victories, along with two losses by Southern Oregon to jump into fourth place in the CCC for the final playoff spot.

Jill Suratt went 2-for-3 in the game with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. She also took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs in 3.2 innings. NCU's wins leader finished her junior season with a 6-8 record.

Corban 11, Northwest Christian 1 (5 innings)

With the win knocked out of their sails, the Beacons weren't able to muster enough offense to contend with the hot Corban bats as the Warriors pounded out eleven hits.

Randi Koster gave NCU their only run in the top of the first inning, hitting her first home run of the season. In the bottom of the first, Corban took advantage of a Beacon error and scored six runs (one earned) to set the tone.  The Warriors added two runs in the second and three in the third to cap off the run-rule loss.

Stover went 2-for-2 in the game, breaking her tie with Sconce for the career hits mark.

NCU finishes a strong turnaround season in which they doubled their conference win total from 2013. The Beacons were 13-26, including a 12-16 mark the CCC.
