Oregon Tech Takes Two

Game One Box | Game Two Box

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –The Northwest Christian University softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday, swept by No. 25 Oregon Tech in run-rule fashion, 15-7 and 9-0.

After scoring 17 runs on Friday, the Beacons looked to keep the offensive rhythm going on Saturday. OIT had jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but NCU quickly got those runs back in the third. Randi Kostner scored two runs with a two-out double and after stealing third, scored on a Gabby Stover single. Parker Bonife then brought home Stover with a double to left-centerfield.

Oregon Tech wasn't done with the offense either, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the third. NCU again tried to make a comeback in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on an RBI double from Stover, an RBI groundout by Jill Suratt and an RBI single from Torie O'Keeffe (pictured).

Trailing 8-7, the Beacons led the game slip out of their grasp in the bottom of the fifth as Oregon Tech posted seven more runs capped off by a three-run homer to put the run-rule in effect.

The eight-runs-after-five innings standard came into play in the second game as well with a 9-0 five-inning win for the Owls. The lights finally went out on the high flying Beacon offense as Jesse Duncan (5-2) and Rylee Carleton combined to allow just two hits while striking out three batters.

Northwest Christian (2-13, 1-3 CCC) will return to action on Friday afternoon, playing Concordia University in their first home games in nearly a month. The first-pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
