Beacons Swept by Western Oregon

| Box Score 2 MONMOUTH, Ore. –The Western Oregon University softball team picked up their fifth and sixth consecutive wins on Tuesday afternoon while Northwest Christian extended their losing skid to seven as the Wolves swept a double-header, 2-1 and 7-4.

The teams were locked in a pitching duel during the opener as Beacon starter Bre Johnson (0-4) and WOU reliever Jourdan Williams (4-1) combined to allow just two earned runs on the day. Western Oregon staked themselves to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in both the first and second innings.

NCU broke through in the top of the fourth. Randi Kostner doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Parker Bonife for the teams only run of the contest.

Kostner, Bonife, Laynee Bevans and Chelsea Hannon collected the four hits for NCU. Bridjet Box went 2-for-3 for Western Oregon, the only player to record multiple hits in the game.

Beacon reliever Sarah Lawhorn put in a solid inning of relief work, striking out two batters without allowing a run in the sixth inning.

In the second game, WOU broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs on NCU starter Jordan Bennett.

NCU responded in the fifth, coming back to tie the game at 4-4. With two out and two runners on base, Gabby Stover (pictured) hit a two-RBI single. The senior catcher later scored on a single from Bonife.

Western Oregon, however, wasn't finished. The Wolves put together another three-run inning, this time tagging Katie Walker (0-3) for three earned on four hits in the sixth inning to make it a 7-4 final.

Stover added a double to bat 2-for-4 in the game and Bevans also finished with a two-hit game. Jill Suratt added a stolen base in the loss. Amanda Evola went 3-for-4 for the Wolves, collecting two runs and two RBI.

The Beacons will be back in action on Friday when they travel south to Ashland to take on Southern Oregon University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both schools. The first pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
