NEWBERG, Ore. – Just three days after a 40-point drubbing of Walla Walla University, the NCU women's basketball team was on the other end of the stick on Tuesday night, losing to NCAA DIII No. 15 George Fox University, 92-52. NCU was held to just 30% shooting on the night.
Â
On a night where the starting lineup was held to just five field goals, the bench provided a silver lining for the Beacons with 37 points. Unfortunately a 29-turnover night proved to be too much to overcome against the perennial Northwest Conference power.
Â
The Beacons (4-3) were led by
MeShel Rad scoring 11 points off the bench on 5-for-11 shooting.
Chandler Gabrio (pictured) added nine points and
Carly Bigby scored eight, shooting 2-for-2 from three-point range.
Demarea Caples scored just four points but led the Beacons with eight rebounds, two blocks, and three steals.
Â
George Fox (5-0) had five players in double-figures for scoring, led by a double-double from Lauren Codling with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Sammy Naluai came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points, shooting 80% from the field with seven free-throws. Jami Morris and Kimberly Frost scored 11 points apiece and Dacia Heckendorf added ten.
Â
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Friday night, playing host to Corban University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both schools at 5:30 p.m.
