EUGENE, Ore. – Seven different players hit at least one three-pointer on Tuesday night as the Beacon air show posted a 77-54 victory over Lewis & Clark College. NCU also collected 14 steals, forcing 22 turnovers as they dominated on both sides of the ball.
Â
NCU led wire-to-wire, save for a 20-second span in which the teams were tied 2-2 early on. The Beacons bolted out to a quick 17-6 lead and were ahead by as many as 16 points midway through the first half. The Pioneers cut their deficit to 12 with 1:16 to play but
Travis Pacos made sure the Beacons would take the momentum into the locker room, scoring six straight points to end the half. The senior hit a three-pointer, collected a steal with eight seconds remaining and went coast-to-coast for the layup, only to be fouled on the play. He connected on the and-one and the Beacons cruised into the intermission with a 41-23 lead.
Â
Lewis & Clark got the score back to within 13 in the early moments of the second half, but the Beacon fire power proved to be too much. Ahead 54-40 with 13:30 to play, the Beacons went on an 11-2 run to seal the deal as they put the game out of reach with three pointers from
Jack Hackman,
Nick Sullivan, and
Kyle Ferreira.
Â
The Beacons (5-2) finished the game shooting 45.9% from the field including an 11-for-27 clip from three-point range. The Pioneers were just 4-for-24 from outside and shot 37% for the night. L&C won the rebounding battle, 37-30 while NCU held the advantage in points coming from the bench, 34-20.
Â
Michael Loomis (pictured) finished the game with a game-high 16 points for NCU shooting 3-for-5 from behind the arc. He and
Austin Kuemper led the team with four rebounds apiece.
Javonte Byrd came off the bench for 13 points and three steals and Pacos completed another strong all-around performance with 12 points, three assists, three rebounds and five steals. NCU also finished the night perfect at the free throw line, shooting 10-for-10.
Â
The Pios (4-3) were led by Carl Appleton off the bench with 14 points and nine rebounds. Serg Ovchinnikov added 11 points and Jason Luhnow scored ten but the duo combined to go 3-for-18 from three-point range.

Northwest Christian will be back in action on Friday, playing host to Corban University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both schools at 7:30 p.m.
