Beacons Take Shootout from Multnomah

EUGENE, Ore. – Future Cascade Collegiate Conference member Multnomah University brought their patented high flying offense to Eugene on Wednesday, only to be held 20 points under their season average in a 107-76 loss to Northwest Christian University. The Beacons hit 14 three-pointers and shot 58% from the field as they crossed the century mark for the first time this season.

Junior Austin Kuemper and senior Travis Pacos (pictured) combined to score NCU's first 21 points as the Beacons jumped out to a 25-12 lead. The home team cruised into the locker rooms with a 53-29 advantage.

More of the same awaited Northwest Christian in the second half as the Beacons scored 20 points in the first four minutes to put the game out of reach with a 73-34 lead. The NCU bench got extensive work in the rotation over the final 16 minutes as Javonte Byrd scored 13 of his 15 points in the second stanza. The junior hit three consecutive triples at one point in the period.

The Beacons (3-2) were led by Kuemper who finished his night early, scoring 23 points and eight rebounds in just 17 minutes of action. He shot 11-for-14 from the floor in the win. Pacos also played just 17 minutes and scored 19 points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Devyn Iglehart scored seven points and had seven assists while Harley Turner came off the bench to score eight points while posting a game-high 10 rebounds.

NCU shot 14-for-30 from three-point range, winning the shooting battle with the Lions who shot 10-for-35. The Beacons out-rebounded MU 50-28 and collected 31 assists, one shy of the school record set against Multnomah in 2013.

The Lions (3-8) had four players in double-figures led by 20 points from Blake Updike, who hit a game-high four three-pointers. Adding a 19-point, nine-rebound effort was Jordan Paris while Tanner Shula and Austin Feaster scored 11 points apiece.

NCU will return to action on Saturday when they play host to Portland Bible College (1-6) at 7 p.m.
