Byrd Burst Not Enough Against Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colorado - Javonte Byrd scored 15 of his 20 points in the first half, but the hot shooting Grizzlies from Adams State University stormed ahead early and never looked back, cruising to a 92-64 victory.

The game was NCU's first ever contest in Colorado and their first against the NCAA Division II school. The Beacons (2-2) were held to just 32% in the contest  while shooting 8-for-24 from three-point range. Adams State scored 54 first half points and shot 63% in the game. The Grizzlies out-rebounded NCU 32-17.

Making his season debut, Byrd shot 6-for-11 from the field and hit a trio of three-pointers. He was the only players in double-figures for the road team. Travis Pacos and Kyle Ferreira added nine points apiece and Remi White led the team with three rebounds.

Shakir Smith led Adams State with 25 points in their season opener, shooting 6-for-8 from three-point range with all six treys coming in the opening stanza. Travante Williams added 18 points off the bench and Michael Middlebrooks scored 15 points and 5 blocks, shooting 7-for-8.

NCU returns to action on Wednesday, playing host to Multnomah University at 7:30 p.m.
