Playoff Elimination Blocked in Olympia

OLYMPIA, Wash. – One night after managing just one team block, the Northwest Christian University volleyball team tallied 11 blocks, keeping their playoff hopes alive with a four-set road win over Evergreen, 23-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-23.
 
Hitting at just a .174 clip, the Beacons were the benefactors of 30 unforced errors by the home team who hit just .107 on the night.
 
The Beacons (9-11, 6-10 CCC) were led by Chander Gabrio, posting 14 kills, five blocks, and three service aces. In one of her most productive nights of the season, junior Kayla Ping (pictured) hit .276 with ten kills and a season-high five blocks (one solo). Chelsea McGowan also produced ten kills and five blocks.
 
Alyssa Dorr registered a double-double for the second straight night, leading NCU with 39 assists and 14 digs. Sydney Rothenbush and Haley Damian owned the backline for the visitors, combining for 25 digs and three aces. NCU had 9 aces as a team and out-dug the Geoducks, 72-65.
 
Evergreen (14-17, 4-13) was led by Nicole Diehl, posting a match-high 16 kills. Natimia Barker-Doss led all players with 23 digs and Jaclyn Trinique posted a team-best 26 assists.  
 
A shake-up in the CCC standings leaves the Beacons (9-11, 6-10 CCC) now in a tie for sixth-place in the CCC with Oregon Tech as Northwest moved up into the fifth-place slot on Saturday. The Beacons own the tie-breaker over the Owls who finish the regular season at home next weekend playing host Warner Pacific on Friday and Concordia on Saturday.
 
NCU will also end the regular season at home, with Eastern Oregon coming to the Morse Event Center next Friday at 7 p.m. and The College of Idaho visiting Eugene on Saturday at 5 p.m.
