EUGENE, Ore. – The College of Idaho scored on a breakaway in the second minute of the second overtime on Saturday, clinching a home playoff game for the upcoming CCC post season tournament. For NCU the season came to an end but not before honoring seniors
Karlie Mast,
Michelle Giron,
Mishayla Bertelsen,
Stevie Harrison, and
Linsey Johnson in a pregame ceremony.
Â
NCU (7-11, 2-7 CCC) finished the game holding the advantage in shots, 17-15, including an 11-7 margin in shots-on-goal. Bertelsen and Harrison combined for six shots-on-goal as they did everything they could to put the Beacons on the scoreboard.
Â
The College of Idaho, however, fought off every attempt as goalkeeper Brittany Houghton completed the shutout, making ten saves.
Mackenzie Galick held her own as well between the pipes for the Beacons, making five saves. In her two first career starts the freshman went 192 minutes without allowing a goal.
Â
After 90 scoreless minutes of regulation and an unfruitful first overtime. The Yotes wasted no time in putting away the game as Katelyn Benavidez beat her defender for a breakaway down the left sideline in the 102nd minute. Benavidez was able to time her cross into the box perfectly and Julia Fretwell was there to punch home the winner into the right corner of the net.

Head Coach
Brett Bentley said, "The women played really well today and didn't deserve that kind of end to our season. Throughout the game we were the aggressor and narrowly missed our chances to take the lead. I wish we could have sent our seniors out with a win. I thank the Lord for bringing each of them to our team and our community as they are truly the foundation of the current NCU style of play. They will be greatly missed.Â
