Cavliers Knock Off Beacons in Three Sets

PORTLAND, Ore. – Northwest Christian University was unable to get the Concordia monkey off their back on Saturday night, falling to the Cavaliers in three sets, 25-19, 25-13, 25-21 in the final regular-season CCC meeting between the schools.

Concordia, who will be leaving the Cascade Conference after this season for NCAA Division II, remains one of two schools that NCU has never been able to top, holding a 18-0 edge in the all-time series.

On Saturday, it was a clean offensive attack by the Cavs that kept NCU at bay as Concordia hit .271 in the match. The Beacons hit .108 and totaled 19 attack errors. Otherwise, the teams played an even match with each school collecting six aces and three blocks. Concordia held a slight 60-52 margin in digs.

The Beacons (6-9, 3-11 CCC) were led by senior Chelsea McGowan (pictured), hitting .348 with ten kills and three blocks. Chandler Gabrio posted the match-high in kills for the second straight night, collecting 12. Alyssa Dorr added a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs while Sydney Rothenbush led the team with 12 digs.

Concordia (12-6, 9-2 CCC) was guided by Lindsey Dorsey with nine kills. Ashley Jibby and Breena Huwe each added eight kills. Leslie Hanks led all players with 14 digs while Anna Chizum notched a match-best 31 assists.

NCU, currently tied with Warner Pacific for sixth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference will return home next weekend, taking on fifth-place Oregon Tech (19-7, 5-5) at 7 p.m.
