EUGENE, Ore. –Northwest University showed why they are currently at the top of the Cascade Conference standings on Thursday afternoon, holding the Beacons to just two shot attempts in a 3-0 shutout.
Â
The Eagles (6-5-1, 4-0 CCC) outshot NCU 21-2 and held the Beacons without a shot-on-goal. Acacia Johnson added three goals to her resume, scoring two in the first half and completing the hat-trick in the 76th minute.
Â
Johnson took a through ball from Tiffany Taylor in the third minute and split the NCU center backs making a one-touch strike for the score. Then, just six minutes later she scored again, scoring off a cross from Kelsey Green. Late in the second half she scored again, getting her own rebound off a
Kristin Fulbright save to make it a 3-0 final.
Â
Head Coach
Brett Bentley said, "For all teams this is a very difficult place to play, but we did a poor job being ready to go from the get-go. We came out slow and sluggish and they got two quick easy goals on us. We didn't help our cause by any means."
Â
Northwest Christian (5-8, 1-4) got shot attempts from
Stevie Harrison and
Maddi Bartholomew, but was never to get anything going offensively.
Kristin Fulbright was busy between the pipes, collecting 9 saves.
Â
The Beacons will look to rebound on Saturday, traveling to Olympia, Washington to take on Evergreen at 11 a.m.
