KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech, currently ranked No. 14 in the NAIA, went up early and never looked back, stopping Northwest Christian on Saturday night, 75-62 on Danny Miles Court in Klamath Falls.
The Owls (16-2 overall, 4-2 CCC) kept hold of a share of third-place in the conference with the win, shooting 44.8% in the game while forcing 20 NCU turnovers. The Beacons (3-10, 0-5) shot 40.7% in the game and were out-rebounded 34-33.
It was the Beacons who struck first, getting a jumper from
Allie Kelsey just a minute into the game. OIT then fired off a 12-2 run and were soon ahead 18-8 with 12:37 to play. The Owls stretched the lead to 29-14 with just over eight minutes remaining.
Sandwiched by a layup from Kelsey on the front and a three-pointer from the junior guard on the back, NCU went on a run of their own, scoring 13 unanswered points to climb within two points, 29-27 with four minutes remaining. Unfortunately for the visitors, OIT would rattle off an 11-2 run to close out the half and take a 40-29 advantage into the intermission.
NCU never got closer than five points in the second half and the Owls led by as many as 18 points, shooting 54.5% after the break.
The Beacons, who have been dealing with numerous injuries and a circulating flu bug, still had four players in double-figures in the loss, led by Kelsey with 12.
Andrea Gloss finished with eleven points and a team-high six rebounds.
Hannah Frederick scored ten points, adding team-highs with seven assists and four steals.
Breanna Schmidt (pictured) came off the bench to score ten points, hitting a team-leading five field goals in the contest in 22 minutes of action.
"Despite illness and injury we made some forward progress this weekend," said Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton. "Bre came off the bench for a quality, inspired performance."
Oregon Tech was fueled by an 18-point performance from Karissa Dixon who hit four three-pointers. Karly Leveque, Kassi Conditt, and Ashleigh Vandenbrink each added ten points in the victory.
The Beacons will return to action on Friday night when they welcome Concordia University (3-13, 1-4) into the Morse Event Center for the first home game of the new year at 5:30 pm.
