KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's golf team posted its best single-round score in two and a half years on Tuesday, to close out the Oregon Tech Invitational at Running Y Golf Club.
The large day-two jump was fueled by senior Tyler Falk (pictured), tying his career record to jump into third place. Falk's third career 68, which included two Eagles, gave him a 218 for the tournament. It was also the low-round of the day.
Concordia's Jesse Heinly won the individual medal, shooting a 7-under 209. Kyle DeLorey broke the College of Idaho scoring record with his second-place finish (73-71-69=213). Behind Falk's third-place posting was Josh Vizcaino from Concordia and David Murphy from host OIT.
For the Beacons, James Demopoulos had the best round of his young career, closing with a 75 to finish the tournament in 11th place (80-77-75=232. Calvin Green claimed 18th place (81-79-78=238) while Sam Mar (81-86-73=240) and Cody Gardner (73-87-80=240) tied for 20th place.
The Beacons shot a 294 in the third and final round, the lowest since March 28, 2011. It is the eighth-lowest score in school history. It was good enough to keep the Beacons in third place, ahead of Warner Pacific with whom they were tied after the first day.
Concordia won the event with a combined 883, well ahead of second-place Oregon Tech (913) and the Beacons (920).
Director of Golf Jeff Gaskill said, "I am really proud of how our guys performed at this tournament. It was good to see Cody break through yesterday. Today, shooting 294 was an enormous step for our team."
The Beacons will be back in action in two weeks, traveling to the Concordia Cavalier Classic from September 30 to October 1.
