Beacons Honor Athletes at Award Ceremony

EUGENE, Ore. - The seventh annual NCU Champions of Character Awards Dessert took place on Sunday night, combined with the Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies.

Former Men's Basketball Coach Dave Lipp was inducted into the NCU Athletic Hall of Fame. During his 23 seasons as the head coach of the men's basketball program, Lipp led NCU to thirteen national championship tournament appearances, winning five national titles. His teams won three straight National Bible College Athletic Association (NBCAA) championships from 1983-1985 and back-to-back National Small College Athletics Association (NSCAA) championships in 1998 and 1999. Coach Lipp is NCU's all-time wins leader with 438 victories, holding a .639 career winning percentage.

The Athletic Training Perseverance awards were presented to junior softball player Ally Mittleider (Kent, Wash.) and senior men's basketball player Greg Shepard (Portland, Ore.).

The Sports Information Legacy Award, which honors statistical achievement and a lasting impact on Northwest Christian University athletics, was awarded to cross country and track athlete Stephanie Hescock (Drain, Ore.) Hescock has been named to five All-CCC Teams and is a two-time All-American. She holds 8 of the top-ten times in school history for the 10,000m run and currently holds the top time in the country at that distance.

The female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor was awarded to basketball player Aly Bruns (Eugene), and golfer Sarah Crofcheck (Prineville, Ore.). The male award went to junior golfer Calvin Green (Springfield) and senior runner Michael Bellamy (Eugene).

The Champions of Character Award honors athletes who embody the core values of the NAIA Champions of Character program; respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship. The male Champion of Character Award was given to men's basketball sophomore Tyler Fox (Temecula, Calif.) while the female award was given to junior volleyball player Janel Fetters (Mission Viejo, Calif.).

Athlete of the Year honors were bestowed upon senior women's basketball player Lindsey Shearer (Portland) and junior men's golf Tyler Falk (Springfield)

The “Beacon Cup”, which is awarded to the Team of the Year, was given to the women's cross country team for the third consecutive year. The team was ranked as high as #5 in the NAIA during the season and took 14th-place at the NAIA National Championships.
