ASHLAND, Ore. –
Dani Gehrke went 2-for-2 in the opener and three players tacked on multiple hits in the afternoon game as the Beacons were swept by Southern Oregon University on Saturday, 6-0 and 5-4 in a road double-header.
Gehrke (pictured) accounted for NCU's only two hits in the opener as Raider starter Sydney White went the distance for the shutout. Getting her first career start in the circle, freshman
Parker Bonife took the loss allowing six runs on eleven hits. Bonife settled down, however, after a rough start as all six runs came over the first two innings.
The Beacons put together a solid performance in the second game, forcing the Raiders to win it in the bottom of the seventh inning on a walk-off single by Ashley Lowe.
Bonife got the game off on the right foot, blasting her third home run of the weekend in the first inning. Then in the third the Beacons took advantage of two SOU miscues for a three-run inning, taking a 4-1 lead.
Randi Kostner doubled while
Addy Hoskins and
Kaeli Massetto punched out back-to-back singles in the inning. SOU, however, went to the bullpen, bringing White back into the game to settle things down. The game-one starter finished off strong, scattering four singles to the Beacons over the final 4.2 innings.
Single runs for the Raiders in the third, fourth, and sixth innings tied things up and after the Beacons came up empty in the top of the seventh, it was then SOU's chance to end it in the bottom half when Lowe's third hit of the game brought home Sierra Anderson to end the game.
Bonife (0-2) went the distance for the Beacons for the second straight game, allowing four earned runs with one strike out in 6.1 innings of work. Kostner, Hoskins, and Massetto each ended the game with two hits while Bonife and
Chelsea Hannon recorded stolen bases.
NCU will turn around and face the Raiders once again on Tuesday, coming home for a make-up double-header from a rain-out in March. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at James Park.
