KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Freshman
Parker Bonife (pictured) hit a double and two home runs on Friday, providing most of the offense in a double-header sweep at the hands of No. 15 Oregon Tech. The Owls took both games with run-rule victories, 9-1 in six innings and 12-4 in five innings.
Oregon Tech hit five home runs in the first game as senior Jess Plummer tied the OIT record with her 17th of the season. In game two, senior Taylor Schmidt tied the Oregon Tech career record for wins by a pitcher with her 77th victory, while also hitting a grand slam.
The Beacons trailed 3-0 in the third inning when they got on the board as
Randi Kostner scored of an RBI single from
Gabby Stover.
Addy Hoskins added a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a pair of singles.
Sarah Lawhorn (5-11) got the start for the Beacons, allowing seven runs over 2.1 innings. Bonife came in out of the bullpen for the final three innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
Bonife went on to post a career-high four-RBI game in the night-cap as she batted 2-for-3 with her pair of two-run blasts, in the first and third innings. Kostner was also 2-for-3 for NCU and scored twice.
Jordan Bennett (0-14) took the loss for NCU, allowing nine runs on six hits in the first two innings. Bonife again came in in relief, allowing three runs over the final 3.1 innings.
The Beacons (5-25, 3-17 CCC) will return to action on Saturday, traveling to face Southern Oregon. Oregon Tech (35-12, 19-7) will play host to No. 10 Corban in a top-25 battle.
