Pacific Sweeps Non-Conference Games

EUGENE, Ore. – Pacific University used a combined one-hitter in game one on Tuesday afternoon to propel themselves to a double-header sweep of the Northwest Christian University softball team at James Park, 5-0 and 9-4.

Marissa Reichard allowed just one hit over the first five innings of game one to record her sixth victory of the season while Jaime Birch closed out the game with two innings of work, allowing two walks.

NCU's lone hit came from Randi Kostner, who was 1-for-2 in the game with a walk. Sarah Lawhorn (5-7) took the loss for the Beacons, allowing four earned runs over seven innings. The freshman hurler struck out one batter and allowed seven hits.

The Beacons rebounded well in game two with eight hits, including a 2-for-2 performance from Kaeli Massetto (pictured). The freshman catcher got her first start of the season and made the most of it, adding an RBI.

Laynee Bevans was 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Beacons, upping her team-leading season hit total to 22.

Pacific had ten hits in the game on NCU starter Jordan Bennett (0-10), as eight different batters reached base. Bennett struck out a season-high five batters in the game.

Northwest Christian will be back in action next Friday, April 5th as they play host to Northwest University at 2:00 pm.
