EUGENE, Ore. – The College of Idaho jumped into a tie with Northwest Christian for fifth place in the CCC on Saturday, sweeping the Beacons in a pair of run-rule victories, 10-0 and 8-0. Both games ended after five innings.
The Yotes (15-13, 3-5 CCC) used a seven-run third inning, highlighted by a Paige Gabiola grand slam to pull away in the first game. CI finished with ten runs on 13 hits. Nickayla Skinner (10-5) got the win, scattering four hits and striking out four batters in the complete game shutout.
Molly Mills went 3-for-4 and scored twice while Gabiola, Katie Rowe and Ashley Van Horne had two hits apiece.
The Beacons were able to get four singles in the contest, from
Laynee Bevans,
Randi Kostner,
Gabby Stover, and
Addy Hoskins.
Jordan Bennett took the loss for NCU, allowing seven runs over 2.2 innings.
Game two saw The College of Idaho score in the first three innings to quickly build an 8-0 lead. NCU wasn't able to get anything going offensively as they managed just one hit on CI starter Cortni Pena (5-7) who struck out two batters in a complete game shutout effort.
Gabiola, Mills and Kayla Webb each had two hits. Mills had a two-run home run as part of her effort, her fifth of the season, and she scored three more times for the Yotes.
NCU's sole hit was a single by Bevans. Bennett (0-7) once again suffered the defeat, allowing five runs (three earned) through 1.1 innings.
Sarah Lawhorn came in in relief and allowed three runs (one earned) over 3.2 innings. The Beacons had three errors in the game.
