Beacon Women Close Out Regular Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EUGENE, Ore.  – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team dropped two games this weekend during their final regular season road trip, but survived in the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoff race as they finish tied for sixth place.

Oregon Tech 69, Northwest Christian 57

After trailing OIT by as many as 16 points, the Beacons rallied to within four points late in the second half on Friday night before running out of time. The Owls led 28-24 at the intermission, but had climbed to take a 51-35 lead with 10:37 to play.

Two three-pointers from Aly Bruns and one from freshman Taya Harbick sparked a 12-0 rally over the next two minutes as NCU charged back to make it 51-47. That was as close as the Beacons would come, eventually falling by twelve as the Owls shot 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final minute to seal the victory.

NCU was led by Katie Collins, scoring 16 points and five assists. Lindsey Shearer added a double-double, scoring 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and Bruns finished with eleven points and six assists. Bruns was 3-for-6 from three-point range in the game. Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “Aly was really aggressive for us tonight with her play, hitting some nice buckets.”

Oregon Tech  (20-8, 13-5 CCC) was led by Karissa Dixon, scoring 17 points and eight rebounds. Kassi Conditt added eleven points and Maria Ramirez finished with four points and a team-high ten rebounds.

Southern Oregon 77, Northwest Christian 65

The Beacons matched SOU point-for-point in the second half on Saturday night, but were never able to overcome a twelve-point halftime deficit. The Beacons were out-rebounded 66-35 in the game as the Raiders made 27 second-chance points.

NCU (13-16, 6-12) had three players in double figures, led by Shearer with 16 and a team-high nine rebounds. Collins added 15 points and freshman Chandler Gabrio (pictured) came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field.

Southern Oregon had five players in double-figures. Alexi Smith, Melissa Sweat and Angelica Cahee each scored 14 points with Cahee added a game-high 17 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards. Allison Gida and Haley Newell scored ten points each.

The Beacons end the season matching their highest CCC finish in school history as they are tied for sixth with The Evergreen State College. NCU lost the tie-breaker to the Geoducks and have earned the No. 7 seed for the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament.
