Falk Wins Title As Beacons Take Fourth

PORTLAND, Ore. – NCU senior Tyler Falk closed the lid on the Cavalier Classic in strong fashion on Tuesday, shooting a 68 as he won the individual title at the event by seven strokes. The Beacons closed out the event in fourth place, just 11 shots off the lead.

The Beacons shot a 295 as a team, the fifth-lowest single-round total in school history as Tyler Falk shot a 68, Calvin Green shot a 70, Sam Mar shot a 77 and James Demopoulos shot an 80. Spokane CC held on to their day-one lead with their best round of the tournament, a 285 to finish the event a two-under par 862.

Concordia University took second place (863) followed by the University of Victoria (869) and the Beacons (873). The previous record in a three-round tournament for the Beacons was an 893 in this same event three years earlier. NCU's 277 in Monday's second round is the lowest score in CCC history for a single round, breaking the former record, held by Concordia, by one stroke.

Falk's final individual card (72-64-68=204) gave him a seven-shot victory over Northern Idaho CC's Angus Montgomery and University of Victoria's Bruce Tomie, both at 5-under 211. It established a new three-round record for the Beacons, besting the old mark by six strokes. His 64 on Monday was four-strokes better than his own NCU record and it tied two other players for the best score ever in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. In fourth place was Warner Pacific's John-Michael Pilot and Jesse Teron from U-Vic, shooting 4-under 212's.

Caught up in the shadow of Falk's record-shattering week was the performance of freshman Sam Mar, who took 12th place in the event at 3-over 219. He shot a personal collegiate record of 69 in Monday's second-round.

Senior Calvin Green finished 28th for the Beacons, posting a career-low 70 in the final round to total 229. Freshman James Demopoulos was right behind at 231. Cody Gardner was in 45th place (240) followed by Jonathan Porter in 50th (264).

The Beacons will look to ride their momentum into the final tournament of the fall, October 7-8 at the Warner Pacific Invitational.
