Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team matched their 2012 conference win total on Friday night, knocking off Concordia University, 65-57. The Beacons were led by senior
Katie Collins, shooting 8-for-13 from the field for a career-high 22 points.
The home team jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as they held NCU without a field goal for the first four minutes of the game. It was Collins that jump-started the offense, scoring the first five Beacon points as NCU went on an 11-2 run to take back the lead. After trading leads eight times in the next five minutes, the Beacons began to pull away in the final ten minutes of the half. Starting with an 11-0 run, NCU would lead by as many as 15 points before taking a 37-24 lead into the intermission.
The Beacons went on to lead by as many as 18 points in the second-half before taking the eight-point victory. It was just the fifth win all-time against the Cavaliers as NCU won in Portland for just the second time. NCU also broke a four-game losing streak to CU with the win.
The Cavaliers (6-11, 1-7 CCC) had four players in double-figures, led by Kelly Huey with 13. Gabi Beyer scored 12 points and McKenna Daly registered a double-double with ten points and eleven rebounds. Malori Dixon also scored ten points.
NCU (11-8, 4-4) got 22 from Collins who hit three treys, adding four rebounds and two steals.
Tami Brown came off the bench to score 16 points and seven rebounds.
Lindsey Shearer had another historic night for NCU, scoring 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists. With those numbers the senior became the first player in school history and just the tenth ever in the CCC to score 1000 points, 500 rebounds, and 250 assists in her career.
Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “We had a very solid defensive effort tonight. Katie was more aggressive and Tami played well. I am so incredibly proud of Lindsey and her accomplishments. She hit some key three-pointers tonight and distributed the ball.”
NCU will return to action on Saturday night, traveling across town to take on Warner Pacific College at 5:30 pm.
