No. 17 Warriors Take Two From NCU

SALEM, Ore. – Corban University's national ranked softball team claimed a double-header sweep on Tuesday, defeating Northwest Christian University, 7-3 and 9-0 in five innings at Warrior Field.

Corban improved to 27-9 on the season, 12-6 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. NCU dropped to 8-29, 4-14 in CCC.

The Beacons drew first blood in game one when Amanda Reiss (pictured, left) crushed a two-run home run in the top of the second inning, giving NCU a 2-0 lead. Corban came back strong, however, scoring four runs in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth to grab a 7-2 lead. NCU tacked on their final run in the top of the seventh as Gabby Stover led off the inning with a double and was brought home on an RBI single by Megan Mazanec.

Corban tagged NCU pitching for ten hits, getting nine hits and all seven earned runs against starter Brooke Davis (3-4). Jenna Royce came in and pitched two innings of one-hit relief. Amy Greenough picked up her 12th win for Corban, allowing two runs on two hits in five innings of work.

Game two was all Warriors as they scored runs in all four of their offensive innings to claim the mercy-rule victory. Erica Fitzgerald did the lion's share of the damage with a grand slam in the third inning.

The Beacons were held to just three hits in the game against starting pitcher Chelsea Schriber (9-3), getting singles from Stover, Reiss, and Ally Mittleider. Kalyssa Koontz (2-14) took the loss for NCU, allowing seven runs (six earned) in three innings of work. She struck out five batters but gave up seven hits.

NCU returns to action on Saturday as they welcome Corban into town to conclude the four-game season series. First-pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
