Beacons Fall Victim to Early Goals

Box Score

CALDWELL, Idaho  – Two goals allowed in the first 15 minutes of the game once again proved deadly for the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team in a 2-1 loss to The College of Idaho on Wednesday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Head Coach Brett Bentley said, “It took a little while for our backline to get into the game and they made a few early mistakes, allowing balls to get past them that really turned into the only strong chances that College of Idaho had tonight.”

At the 7:09 mark, the Yotes broke up the scoreless game as Drew Smith sent a long ball up the left sideline where Chenjerai Simpson collected and scored inside the left post. Just seven minutes later, Spencer Ward scored off a free kick by Brad Byers that was headed to his feet from James Collet on the double-assist for what would prove to be the game winner.

NCU got on the board themselves in the 30th minute when Peter VanderBogart(pictured) punched home a header off a free kick from Juan Guitron. It was the first goal scored by a Beacon player in five games.

The Yotes (3-6, 2-3 CCC) finished the night with an 18-12 shot advantage including a 7-3 margin in shots-on-goal. Keeper Aaron Reynolds picked up the win, grabbing two saves.

VanderBogart led the Beacons with four shot attempts in the game. Erik Carrazco, getting his second start in goal on the season, recorded four saves and played a strong game after the early pair of goals.

NCU (2-6-1, 0-4-1) will return to action on Saturday when they play host to #11 Concordia at 7:00 pm.
