NEWBERG, Ore. – Northwest Christian split a double-header with George Fox on Wednesday, dropping the opener, 5-4 before taking the night cap, 7-6.
Brooke Davis went 3-for-3 in the first game with a double while
Laynee Bevans and
Megan Mazanec each picked up a pair of hits. The Beacons collected 13 hits as a team, but couldn't come up with more than the four runs of production in the loss.
Jenna Royce (1-3) took the loss in relief, allowing the final two Bruin runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Davis started the game and allowed two earned runs over five innings, striking out four.
The Beacons put on another hitting display in the second game with 12, including five that went for extra bases.
Gabby Stover tied a school-record with four hits, getting a double and a triple to finish just a home run shy of a cycle. Stover also scored twice, grabbed one RBI and a stolen base. Bevans, Mazanec, and
Chelsea Hannon each had a pair of hits and
Ally Mittleider went 1-for-3 with a triple.
Becca Lillegard (1-4, pictured) grabbed her first win of the season, pitching the final three innings, striking out three batters.
The Beacons will return to action on Saturday when they play host to Concordia University for their 2011 home opener.
