REDDING, Calif. - For the third straight year the Northwest Christian University softball team has won their season opener, claiming a 1-0 victory on Friday morning over William Jessup at the Big League Dreams Tournament, hosted by Simpson University.
Two-time All-CCC selection
Brooke Davis (1-0) picked up her junior season where she left off her sophomore campaign, scoring the winning run and pitching a complete-game shutout.
The Beacons scored their only run when Davis opened with a single. Senior
Cassie Bishop busted a ground-rule double, sending her to third. With a squeeze play on, the Jessup pitcher then threw a wild pitch into the dirt and Davis cruised home for the winning run.
Northwest Christian plays their second game at 2:00 this afternoon, facing Biola University, a team currently receiving vote in the NAIA national coaches poll.
