SALEM, Ore. – Junior
Lindsey Shearer had another signature game for the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team, scoring a career high and coming within two assists of a triple-double as the Beacons defeated Willamette University, 74-58 in the Bruce Henderson Memorial Capitol City Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Beacons (6-4) held Willamette to just 35% shooting, forcing the Bearcats into 27 turnovers. Shearer finished with 29 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Senior
Jess Anderson tied her season high, scoring 17 points and
Katie Collins, in her second consecutive start, scored 15 points adding four assists.
Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “We played really well this afternoon. We are really beat up and tired and tomorrow will be our fourth game in five days. Lindsey was efficient both inside and out and it was great to see her shots drop. Jess also hit well tonight. Katie not only handled the press but attacked out of it. It was a true team effort.”
Willamette (0-3) was led off the bench by MacKenzie Lamson, scoring 16 points. Rebecca Josephson threw in ten points and Kaileigh Westermann scored eight points and 14 rebounds. The Bearcats out-rebounded NCU 52-40 and pulled in 22 offensive boards.
Northwest Christian advances to the fifth-place game at 2:00 pm on Saturday where they will face Menlo College out of California. The Oaks defeated Johnson & Wales University (Fla.) on Friday.
