Warriors Get Revenge on Beacons

SALEM, Ore.  – Corban University defeated Northwest Christian University on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference Volleyball action. The win evened the season series for the Warriors, who were defeated by the Beacons earlier this season in Eugene.

“Serve receive and passing really hurt us tonight,” said NCU head coach Mike Gaffaney, “but I really have to hand it to Corban. They were ready for us tonight and we just weren't ready to play. We didn't have that spark that we needed.”

The Beacons (12-14, 5-11) had a sturdy night on offense, hitting .172, but were plagued by eleven service aces out of the Corban camp. Maren Mansfield (pictured) led the charge with 13 kills, hitting .306. She completed a double-double as she chipped in eleven digs.

Janel Fetters just missed her own double-double, putting in ten kills and nine digs, adding a game-high six blocks. Chelsea McGowan had a strong night in the middle with eleven kills and four blocks. NCU out-blocked the Warriors 8-7 in the match. Dana Clark led the team with 15 digs and Cori Wallace had a double-double with a match-high 39 assists to go with twelve digs. Wallace also broke her own NCU single-season assist record in the loss, moving her 2011 total to 762. As a freshman last year she collected 732.

The Warriors (12-13, 5-11) were led by Claire Bailey, posting a match-high 14 kills while hitting .500. As a team, Corban hit .242. Megan Dees added 33 assists and a team-high five aces and Chandra Baskoro posted a double-double with eleven kills and a match-high 16 digs.

The Beacons will close out the season next weekend with a Friday home match against Northwest University, followed by a home match against Evergreen on Saturday. Both are scheduled for 7:00 pm start times.
