EUGENE, Ore. – In what was the closest game ever between the schools, #11 Concordia University escaped with a 1-0 victory over Northwest Christian University on Saturday in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. A fourth-minute goal was all the Cavaliers needed in a defensive skirmish.
Concordia caught the Beacons napping in the early going as they punched in the game's only score in with 3:48 showing on the clock. Nick Cook sent a service pass into the box, which was headed by Michael Chamberlain over to Kaiaio Nahale-a on the right side. Nahale-a wasted no time, tucking a one-timer just inside the right post for the game-winner.
In all, the Beacons were out-shot 16-6 in the game with CU holding an 8-2 edge in shots-on-goal. NCU junior Goalkeeper
Nick Kratzke did a strong job keeping the game close between the pipes scooping up six saves, including a leaping stop in the final ten minutes that deflected a sure goal from Jared Brace off the crossbar and out of play.
NCU's defense, led by
Lucas Cash (pictured) performed well across the board, holding CCC leading scorer and defending conference Player of the Year Facundo Dipascuale without a shot attempt in the match.
Concordia (9-1, 5-1 CCC) will be back in action next Saturday when they play host to Warner Pacific College. The Beacons are also off until October 8th, when they travel to Salem to take on rival Corban University.
