Bishop Breaks Single-Season HR Record in Split

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Cassie Bishop cranked her ninth home run of the season on Sunday, breaking the single-season record of eight, set by Brooke Davis last year. The Beacons split their road double-header, taking the first game from Oregon Tech 4-3 before dropping the second game 5-4 on a walk-off home run for the Owls.

Junior Lissa Hatefi had a strong performance for the Beacons in the win, tying the game with an RBI double in the seventh and then scoring the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Davis. Hatefi finished the game batting 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Brittany Robles was also 2-for-4.

Jenna Royce (2-2) grabbed her first win since February 21st, throwing two-hit softball over the final three innings without allowing a run as the Beacons mounted a comeback from an early 3-0 deficit. Davis had gotten the start and allowed three runs on six hits over four innings while striking out three.

Game two saw a lot of fireworks with the teams combining for four home runs in the last two innings. Bishop's record-breaker came in the top of the sixth inning, a two-run shot that gave the Beacons a 3-2 lead. Oregon Tech's Ashleigh Larson proceeded to hit her own two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth, putting the Owls back on top, 4-3.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Amy Stanton punched out her first homer of the season as the Beacons tied the game, 4-4. But, the first batter in the bottom of the seventh, Kayde Schaefer, hit a bomb off of Davis (5-11) to give the Owls the win.

Becca Lillegard had her second straight solid performance for NCU in the circle. After picking up her first collegiate victory on Saturday, the freshman allowed two runs off two hits over five innings of work on Sunday, striking out a season-high four batters. Lillegard also went 2-for-2 with a walk and Stanton finished the game hitting 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Bishop ended the day 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. The junior now has 67 runs scored in her career and sits just three away from breaking NCU's career record in the category.

Northwest Christian (12-18, 2-6 CCC) will be back in action on Friday when they travel to face the College of Idaho at 2:00 pm. They remain on the road on Saturday to face Eastern Oregon at 11:00 am.
